HUDO Centre Date: 25th May 2025 No: H.K/PS/17/025 UPDATE ON GIS CARRIES OUT AN OPERATION OF ARRESTING THE YOUTH IN KADOGLI, SUDAN On 16th May 2025, the GIS released the six (6) youths that were earlier arrested in Kadogli and their confiscated phones were given back. They were released on condition that they must report on a daily basis to GIS office. Since then up to date they have been reporting to GIS office, this affected their daily life and work. Between 9th and 12th May 2025, the General Intelligence Service (GIS) in Kadogli carried out an operation targeting and arresting the youth activists in Kadogli emergency room, and their smart phones were confiscated and searched. During their interrogation, it was revealed that the reason why they were arrested was the suspect of sharing information with the journalist (Mr. Sanhouri). The names of the arrested youths are: Mr. Omar Mohammed Osman (known by the nickname Omer Faransa), Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Kodi, Mr. Ahmed Omer, Mr. Mohamed Ismail, Mr. Mosab Osman AlNoor and Mr. Aasim Ahmed. On 11th May 2025, Mr. Ahmed Omer was released unconditionally (after spending one night in detention) because he was not the intended person, that there was just similarity in names”. On 16th May 2025, The other five (5) youths were released with their confiscated phones. They were given a condition of reporting daily to GIS office, this affected their daily life activities/work. This release was after detaining them incommunicado for almost a week. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The GIS in Kadogli to stop arresting people arbitrary and releasing them with stringent conditions that affect their daily life and work.  The head of the security committee in South Kordufan State (the governor) to investigate the circumstances behind this arrest and make the findings public.  Sudan government to respect the rights of civilians.
