HUDO Centre Date: 6th January 2019 UPDATE ON ARREST OF HUSSEIN BY MI IN TALODI, SUDAN On 2nd January 2019, Hussein Salaheldin Maali was released by MI in Talodi after spending more than three (3) weeks in detention. The release was conditional and he had to swear by Quran that he will not contact the armed group. Mr. Hussein Salaheldin Maali Mabloul was arrested on 12th December 2018 by Military Intelligence (MI) from his house at Talodi (No. H.K/UA/08/018). The reason for arrest was that he had displayed a photo of an SPLA officer on his Facebook account. He was kept in MI custody at Talodi military base and during his detention time, he was denied family or lawyers’ visits. He was not informed the reason why he was arrested until his first interrogation which was one week from the time of the arrest. The 2nd interrogation was on the day of his release where he was forced to swear with Quran not to contact anyone among the armed soldiers as a condition of his release. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in SK State and calls upon;  Sudan government to end the state of emergency in conflict areas which enables MI to carry out arrests at will.  Sudan government to stop intimidating and harassing civilians.  The military authority in Talodi to immediately conduct genuine investigations about the cause of Mr. Hussein’s arrest and to make the findings public.
