HUDO Centre Date: 11th February 2025 No.: H.K/PS/05/025 UPDATE ON THE JSC ARRESTED MR. JAMAL IN DAMAZIN, SUDAN Since 19th January 2025, the Joint Security Cell has detained Mr. Jamal-Eldin incommunicado at Roseries dam building within Damazin town. The reason for his arrest is about an article written by his cousin which was criticizing the administrators at the governor’s office. On 19th January 2025, the Joint Security Cell (JSC) soldiers in Damazin arrested Mr. Jamal-Eldin Mohammed Ali Ibrahim (known as Jamal Wad Elradya) from his house without giving a reason. Since then, they have been holding him incommunicado and his family and friends were not allowed to visit him. All security organs had claimed not to be responsible for his arrest and whereabouts. This raised fear that he could be undergoing torture. HUDO Centre got reliable information that, Mr. Jamal-Eldin is detained at JSC custody at Roseries dam building in Damazin town. The reason of his arrest is an article written by his cousin Mr. Safwan accusing the administrators at governor’s office of being involved in corruption. Mr. Jamal-Eldin was contacted by the governor’s office ordering him to talk to his cousin and to stop him from writing about such allegations. Mr. Jamal could not stop his cousin from writing and had told them he has no authority over him. Two days after the warning from Governor’s office, Mr. Jamal was arrested with no justifiable reason. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The JSC to immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Jamal-Eldin or send him to the courts of law.  Blue Nile State governor to stop the misconduct of his staff (administrators).  The security committee in Blue Nile State to investigate the circumstances that led to the arrest of Mr. Jamal-Eldin and make the findings public.  The JSC to stop the arrest of civilians.
