HUDO Centre Date: 18th May 2022 No. H.K/UA/02/022 URGENT APPEAL PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION (SIT-IN) IN ELFAID UM-ABDALLA, SUDAN Since 10thMay 2022, the residents of Elfaid Um-Abdalla organized a sit-in demonstration at town’s Elhurriya square. They are demonstrating against the state of insecurity and the failure by authorities (government) to intervene. Up to now, the authorities have not addressed the residents. From 10th May 2022, the residents of Elfaid Um-Abdalla have been on a sit-in demonstration at Elhurriya square (the town’s main yard). The demonstrating residents are condemning the authorities because of insecurity whereby many people have been killed by armed people yet the police do not investigate or arrest the perpetrators. The residents/ demonstrators expressed that some of perpetrators are known but the security committee and police have not helped. Today is the ninth day of the sit-in, but the government officials have not addressed the demonstrators. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the safety of civilians and calls upon;  The government authorities to consider the peoples’ voice (demands) as a constitutional rights.  The security committee in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to take immediate actions in dissolving militias and remove unlicensed weapons from the public.  The prosecutor in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.  Sudan government to respect the constitutional rights of citizens and to respect its international obligations towards their citizens.
