HUDO Centre Date: 23rd August 2023 No.: H.K/UA/12/023 URGENT APPEAL SAF ARRESTED MR. MAHMOUD ALI ADAM IN KHARTOUM, SUDAN On 9th August 2023, Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) arrested Mr. Mahmoud Ali Adam from his home in Khartoum North and took him to an unknown destination which raised fears for his life. His detainees accused him of being a secret agent (spy) of Rapid Support Forces. On 9th August 2023, about fifteen (15) soldiers from Sudan Armed Forces on two (2) military vehicles arrested Mr. Mahmoud Ali Adam Abdalla from his home in Adroshab north neighborhood of Khartoum North town, then took him to an unknown destination. He was accused by SAF to be spying for Rapid Support Forces (RSF). His family members failed to know where he is detained, which raised fears that his life could be in danger. A released detainee from SAF detention talked to HUDO Centre saying that; I was one among more than ten detainees kept in small room of poor ventilation and bad sanitation. We used to sleep on flour, served with one poor quality meal, limited water and many of us had experienced physical torture. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the Followings : • The Sudan Armed Force in Khartoum state to Immediately Release Mr. Mahmoud Ali Adam or refer him to the court of law if there is a genuine case against him. • The Commander of SAF in Khartoum state to investigate the Circumstances that led to the arrest of Mr. Mahmoud Ali Adam and make the results public. • The Sudan Armed Forces to stop arresting civilians arbitrary.
