Date: 15thNovember 2019 No. H.K/PR/32/019 UPDATE ON SAF UNLAWFULLY IMPOUNDS A VEHICLE IN BLUE NILE, SUDAN On 6th November 2019, Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers in collaboration with a policeman arrested Mr. Muntasir Ali who was on his way to attend the court session. He was arrested in Damazin and deported to Madinah-10 where he was confined up to midnight. The court was adjourned to 17th November 2019. On 25th October 2019, SAF at Singa Nabak village unlawfully confiscated a commercial vehicle belonging to Mr. Muntasir Ali. His vehicle was impounded because he had earlier reported the assault case against one of the soldiers who had assaulted him. To date, the vehicle is still at the military base. He is undergoing intimidation to withdraw the suit (court-case) against the soldier so that he can get access to his vehicle. Mr. Muntasir insisted to follow the court/legal process for his rights. On the date of the scheduled court session (6th Nov 2019), Muntasir was on his way to the court in Damazin; two SAF soldiers with one policeman arrested and deported him to Madinah-10 (more than fifty kilometers south Damazin). He was detained there up to midnight. The next day Mr. Muntasir came back to Damazin and he was informed (after inquiry) that because of his absence, the court session was adjourned to 17thNovember 2019. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict states and calls upon;  Sudan government to immediately take action against Sinja Nabak’s commandant, release the vehicle and compensate the driver.  Sudan government to ensure that there is rule of law and protection of rights of civilians in conflict areas.  Sudan government to end the state of emergency which allowed the armed forces to act on their will.  Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens.
