HUDO Centre Date: 8th June 2025 No: H.K/PS/21/025 UPDATE ON THE ARREST OF MR. AHMED EL-BUKHARI BY GIS IN ABUJIBAIHA, SUDAN On 20th May 2025, the General Intelligence Service (GIS) in Abu-Jibaiha released Mr. Ahmed El-Bukhari with conditions after detaining him incommunicado for three (3) weeks. On 30th April 2025, General Intelligence Service (GIS) soldiers came with a vehicle and arrested Mr. Ahmed Mohamed El-bukhari from his workplace (internet café - Star link) in Abu-Jibaiha market. He was taken to GIS detention centre in Abu-Jibaiha where the access was restricted. His family members and lawyers were not allowed to visit him. Mr. Ahmed El-bukhari was arrested because of his article that he had shared (posted) on his Facebook page. In the article, he was criticizing and opposing the statement “glory to the gun, not to the tyres" which was made by Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan the commander-in-Chief of SAF and head of the sovereign council in Sudan. On 20th May 2025 Mr. Ahmed El-bukhari was released after his father signed a pledge form that Mr. Ahmed will not criticize the government or engage in any political activities. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, and calls for the following:  The GIS in Abu-Jibaiha to stop arresting people arbitrary and releasing them with stringent conditions that affect their rights and freedoms.  The head of the security committee in South Kordufan State (the governor) to investigate the circumstances surrounding this arrest and make the findings public.  Sudan government to respect the rights of civilians.
