HUDO Centre Date: 3rd April 2019 No. H.K/UA/09/019 URGENT ACTION ARREST OF AHMED ELSAYID BY SAF/ MI IN ELFAID, SUDAN On 26th March 2019, for unknown reasons Mr. Ahmed Elsayid was brutally arrested by SAF soldiers in Elfaid Um-Abdalla of South Kordufan State and deported to Um-Brembeta. Since then, he has been held incommunicado and he is undergoing torture Mr. Ahmed Elsayid Mohammed Abduelrahman, 29 years old, is a former SAF soldier. Ahmed is one of the people who were displaced from their home town of Elfaid Um-Abdalla in 2011 when the war erupted in South Kordufan. But, in the year 2016, they went back. Elfaid Um-Abdalla and Um-Brembeta are small towns in Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State. On 26th March 2019, thirteen (13) armed soldiers dressed in Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) uniform headed by an officer came on two vehicles mounted with machine guns to Mr. Ahmed Elsayid’s house in Elfaid Um-Abdalla and arrested him. They beat/ assaulted him with sticks and whips in the presence of his children in his house, tied him with ropes, put him on to one of their vehicles and drove to Um-Brembeta military quarters where he has been held incommunicado. A reliable source informed HUDO that, Mr. Ahmed is undergoing torture and is in a bad health condition. HUDO is very concerned about Mr. Ahmed’s life as well as other civilians facing the same fate. HUDO calls upon;  The SAF in Um-Brembeta to immediately release Mr. Ahmed Elsayid or send him to courts of law.  Sudan government to end the state of emergency which enables MI to carry out arrests at will.  Sudan government to conduct investigations on Ahmed case and to bring those responsible of inhuman treatment to account.
