HUDO Centre Date: 9th March 2025 No.: H.K/PS/08/025 PRESS STATEMENT SAF/MI ARRESTED YOUTH ACTIVISTS BECAUSE OF THEATRICAL PLAY IN ROSERIES, SUDAN On 23rd February 2025, SAF/MI arrested five (5) youths’ activists in Roseries. The arrest came after the youths had participated in a dramatic play in the theatre. The military intelligence considered this play to be undermining SAF. By 25th February 2025, the arrested youths were all released after interrogation. On 21st February 2025, the Ban Cultural Group (BCG) conducted a show (performance) as part of their cultural activities. The show was held at the Youth training centre theatre under the slogan of we need peace. This show was attended by many people. On 22nd February 2025, some of the factions of Sudan Armed Force (SAF) circulated articles on social media condemning and criticizing the show. They indicated that the show was insulting SAF in support of Rapid Support Force (RSF), and they called for the arrest of the performing team. On 23rd February 2025, the SAF/MI arrested the most active five (5) members of BCG and detained them at SAF premises in Roseries. The arrested youth are: Mr. Abu-Almajd Omer M. Karar, Mr. Ahmed Gasem, Mr. Abduelrahman Mohammed, Ms. Tasabeh Ahmed and Mr. Mohammed Elamein. However, Ms. Tasabeh was released (on the same day) but, the other four (4) male youths were kept incommunicado up to their release on 25th February 2025. Roseries is the second town in Blue Nile State. BCG is a youth organization known for its role of awareness on culture and peace activities plus Theatrical Plays (performances). The age group of the arrested youths is between 20 to 30 years. They are known to be very active in different youths organizations in Blue Nile. Mr. Abduelrahman and Ms. Tasabeh are active in resistance committees, Mr. Ahmed Gasim is a member of Democratic Pillar Forum (Montada Alrakeeza Aldemograti). HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety and security of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The security committee in Blue Nile State to investigate the circumstances that led to the arrest of the mentioned youth.
