HUDO Centre 18th December 2018 Update (28) COURT TRIAL OF AL-SANADRA CASE The court session was held on 10th November 2018 at Khartoum North court before Justice/ Atif Abdalla, attended by both lawyers’ panels while the prosecutor and defendants were absent. The judge adjourned the court to 26thDecember 2018. Summary of the court session The court session started at 11:00 AM (Sudan local time) before Justice Atif Abdalla, all parties were present except the prosecutor and defendants. This court session was meant to hear the opinion from the relatives of the deceased. But, the judge adjourned court to 26th December 2018 putting two reasons; that court needs more time to revise/ crosscheck the procuration/ authorization letters from the relatives of the deceased delegating Al-Sanadra village’s Sheikh/ Mayor Mr. Babikir Abdalla Babikir, and to seek an opinion from Sudan president on the deceased Ahmed Adam Shambul (Ahmed Adaroub) since the court is unable to reach his relatives/ family. Observation note  According to Sudan law, if the court is unable to reach the deceased relatives, it should inquire from the President as representative of public affairs and stand instead of the deceased relatives.  Ahmed Adam Shambul (his nickname is Ahmed Adaroub) was one of the victims/ deceased people in Al-Sanadra incident. Recommendations/ Appeals HUDO urges all the concerned, especially:  The Sudan court to conduct the trial fairly  The activists, defenders and supporters to keep on attending court sessions  The diplomatic missions and embassies to observe the court sessions  The Sudan and international media to give full coverage for the court END For any further information please write to hudo2009@gmail.com

Brief description: On 2nd Sept 2016, Public Defense Force (PDF) soldiers on more than twenty motorcycles accompanied by two land cruiser vehicles attacked Al-Sanadra village in Al-Abbasiya locality in South Kordufan state. The attack was based on a claim that some cattle were looted and the footsteps passed through Al-Sanadra village. As a result of the attack, nine (9) people were killed, about twenty (20) wounded and some houses were looted and burnt down, cattle were looted as well as displacement of many residents of Al-Sanadra. The authorities (state/security) first ignored the case but later considered it after much pressure from citizens/public. The case was opened at Al-Abbasiya police office. The lawyers’ of the victims (Accusation panel) requested for the transfer of court to Khartoum and it was accepted.
