HUDO Centre 28th December 2018 Update (29) COURT TRIAL OF AL-SANADRA CASE The court session was held on 26th December 2018 at Khartoum North court before Justice/ Atif Abdalla, attended by both lawyers’ panels while the defendants were absent. The judge adjourned the court to 9th January 2019. Summary of the court session The court session started at 11:30 AM (Sudan local time) before Justice Atif Abdalla, all parties were present except the defendants. The judge announced that, court had revised the procuration/ authorization letters and found them authentic and valid. The relatives of the deceased had earlier delegated Mr. Babikir Abdalla Babikir (Al-Sanadra village’s Sheikh/ Mayor) through those letters. The judge further informed court that the president of Sudan has not yet expressed his opinion on behalf of the deceased’s Ahmed Adam Shambul (Ahmed Adaroub) family. The judge however, told court that proceedings will go on without the president’s opinion. Then the accusing panel requested for court adjournment because Mayor/ Babikir could not attend this session because the security authorities in Al-Abbasiya do not allow civilians to travel because of the current demonstrations in many towns of Sudan. The judge adjourned court to 9th January 2019 for hearing the opinion from the relatives of the deceased represented by Sheikh/ Mayor Mr. Babikir Abdalla.
