HUDO Centre Date: 12th November 2018 UPDATE ON ARREST OF SAEED BY NISS IN BOUT, SUDAN On 25th October 2018, Saeed Ahmed Abdalla died at Damazin in NISS custody as a result of torture. Mr. Saeed was subjected to torture since he was arrested by NISS in Bout of Blue Nile. He was accused by NISS to have participated in smuggling fuel to Upper Nile State of South Sudan. On 24 th October 2018, NISS transferred him from Bout to their state headquarter in Damazin. The transfer was a result of his deteriorating health condition yet, he was denied medical care and access to visitors. The following day of 25th October 2018, died. Postmortem was not carried out and the dead body was delivered to his family under intimidation/threats not to take any action. The body was buried in Bout and the families kept silent about the issue and have not sought legal redress. HUDO is very concerned and sad about Mr. Saeed’s fate as well as other civilians that are facing the same situation. HUDO calls upon;  Sudan government to adopt the rule of law, investigates circumstances that led to Saeed’s death/case and to bring those responsible for his death to account.  Sudan government to hold its responsibility of safeguarding the citizens.
