3.1 Mass displacement of Masalit people in West Darfur: Being Masalit became a great challenge26 A refugee camp in Chad (Channel 4 News)27 Introduction The Masalit tribe is an indigenous African tribe inhabiting western Darfur in Sudan (Dar Masalit),28 and other locations in Darfur like Geraida in South Darfur, as well as in eastern Chad. Members of this tribe speak the Masalit language (Masara). They have a Sultan29 in El Geneina and a king in Gereida. During the conflict of April 2023, the Dar Masalit have been attacked widely (in West Darfur in particular) by RSF and allied Arab militias.
