HUDO Centre Date: 11th August 2025 No: H.K/PS/29/025 PRESS STATEMENT JSC SUMMONED A UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN DAMAZIN, SUDAN On 28th July 2025, the JSC summoned a lecturer of Blue Nile University to their office in Damazin where he was interrogated for hours before releasing him. The reason was a discussion in the university WhatsApp group. On 28th July 2025, the Joint Security Cell (JSC) summoned Dr. Abdelraouf Elbadri at their office in Damazin. Dr. Abdelraouf responded to their summons and came to JSC office within the scheduled time. For more than four hours, he was interrogated about his comments criticizing the performance of the head of the university in a WhatsApp group. Thereafter, he was released after warning him to keep silent. An employee of the Blue Nile University commented to HUDO Centre that; “Currently, social media is under heavy surveillance by the security organs and many activists have been arrested after making comments that the security agencies consider to be against their will. Now a day in our university’s workers WhatsApp group everyone is careful to comment and we are suspicious of each other particularly after the arrest and summons our colleagues”. Damazin is the capital city in Blue Nile State where the main campus of the university is located. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following;  The JSC in Damazin to stop summoning and intimidating civilians.  The head of the security committee in Blue Nile State (the governor) to investigate the inappropriate acts by security organs and make the findings public.  Sudan government to respect the citizen’s rights of expression.
