Arrest in Blue Nile 2.1.6 MI arrested civilians including children in Geisan On 1st March 2021, four civilians including children travelled from Amoura Mountain to Geisan town with their donkey carrying baobab to sell it at Geisan market. They were arrested from the market by Sudan Armed Force (SAF) lieutenant/ Abubaker Tayalla and taken to the military base of this town where they were detained and tortured. The following day (2nd March 2021), the youth from Geisan resistant committee got to know about the incident and reacted immediately by inquiring about them (detained people) from the military commandant colonel/ Mohammed Eldaw. The commandant replied that “those people came from an area of rebels that have no peace agreement with us”. The youth committee informed him that, there is a standing order from the former state governor allowing them to come and transact in the market, but he refused to release them. For this reason, the public gathered and demonstrated in front of the military gate which forced the commanders to release them. But, SAF confiscated their belongings like sacks of baobab and money (equivalent to $200). The people who were arrested; the adults are Mr. Mustafa Badai (24 years old) and Mr. Abdelgayoum Omer (26 years old), the children are Amir Yahya (8 years old) and Mergani Aboud (9 years old). 2.1.7 Arrest of Mr. Suliman by SAF in Geisan On 8thMarch 2021, the military intelligence (MI) of Sudan Armed Force (SAF) arrested Mr. Mohammed Suliman from Um-Sheaifa village of Geisan without giving a reason. On 13th March 2021, they transported him to Damazin town where he had spent two weeks detained at Damazin military base before being released on 26th March 2021. An activist from Geisan informed HUDO Centre that “Mr. Mohammed Suliman is living in a Buldabro area which is under SPLA-N control and he came purposely to attend a wedding of his brother. I believe his arrest is because he came from SPLA-N controlled area as we witnessed such arrests before for the returnees”. 10
