HUDO Centre Date: 23rd June 2024 No.: H.K/PS/11/024 UPDATE ON SAF ARRESTED MR. ALI HAJO IN AL-KURMUK, SUDAN On 5th June 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo was transported by SAF from Al-Kurmuk to Damazin. He was detained at Damazin central police up to 9th June 2024. From there, he was transferred to Roseries prison to serve the three (3) months prison sentence. This is according to an emergency order. On 28th May 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo arrived at Al-Kurmuk town from Damazin city, he was on his way to Ethiopia by road. On arrival, he was arrested by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and detained at their Military Intelligence office. SAF suspected that Mr. Ali Hajo was going to attend TAGADOM conference in Addis Ababa. On 5th June 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo was deported from Al-Kurmuk to Damazin. In Damazin he was detained at the central police office up to 9th June 2024. Thereafter, he was transferred to Roseries Prison to serve the three (3) months sentence without appearing before court, this is according to an emergency order. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The Blue Nile State governor (head of security committee) to immediately stop incarceration orders and release Mr. Ali Hajo since there is no legal case against him.  The governor of Blue Nile State to revoke the security law that is violating the rights of citizens.  SAF in Blue Nile to release Mr. Ali Hajo unconditionally and any other civilians that could be under their detention.  The prosecutor in Blue Nile State to investigate the circumstance behind Mr. Hajo’s arrest and make the findings public.
