URGENT ACTION
ARREST OF YOUTH IN DILLING, SUDAN
On 22ndJanuary2019, NISS arrested six youth in Dilling town of South Kordufan; three of them
were arrested from their homes and the other three from Dilling market. Their whereabouts are
unknown and they are suspected to be under torture. The arrest was for unknown reason.
On 22nd January 2019 early morning, a group of armed soldiers dressed in the uniform of National
Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) arrested six youths from their homes and Dilling
town/market. They were taken to unknown place. No reason was given for their arrest but it’s
suspected to be in connection with the announced (planned) visit of the president to Dilling town.
The names of those who were arrested from their homes are; Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Abouhum, 43
years old, trader; Mr. Mohammed Belal Elzain, 27 years old, graduate and Mr. Mohammed Edris
Elgedail, 23 years, student. Those who were arrested from the town/market are: Mr. Abdalla Mergani
Goufa, 24 years old, student; Mr. Elzain Mohammed Elsadiq, 30 years old graduate; Mr. Saif-Eldin
Elhasab, 32 years, graduate.
In the evening of that day (22nd January 2019) the families of the arrested people went to NISS office
to inquire about their fate. But they were chased away and denied any information about them. This
raised more fear that they could be undergoing tortured.
HUDO is very concerned about the youths/ students during this current situation of demonstrations
and calls upon;
Sudan government to disclose the whereabouts of the detained youth and to allow family and
lawyers to visit them.
Sudan government to respect its international obligations of human rights.
NISS authorities at Dilling to immediately release them unconditionally or to present them
before courts of law if there is a genuine case against them.
