HUDO Centre Date: 20th April 2021 No. H.K/PS/28/021 UPDATE ON ARMED PEOPLE SHOT AND INJURED A COMMUNITY LEADER IN ELFAID UMABDALLA, SUDAN On 16th April 2021, the community leader of Hausa in Elfaid Um-Abdalla (Mr. Haroun Abduelgadir) died in Khartoum due to the injuries caused by armed men who had attacked him at his house in Elfaid. On 21stMarch 2021(after midnight), armed people broke into the house of the community leader (Ommda of Hausa tribe) Mr. Haroun Abduelgadir in Elfaid Um-Abdalla and they called out his name. Immediately when he appeared to them, one of the intruders shot and injured him on the right side of his face and ear. Thereafter, the assailants ran away. He was rushed/ taken by his family members and neighbours to the health centre in town. The family also reported the case at Elfaid Um-Abdalla police against anonymous but no further investigations was done. Later the family transferred him to Elobeid town and then to Khartoum for further medical treatment. On 16th April 2021, Ommda/ Haroun Abduelgadir died due to complications caused by injuries from the shooting incident. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon:  Sudan government to urgently investigate and hold to account police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains for not executing their duties.  Sudan government to immediately address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.  Sudan government to ensure that the safety of civilians in conflict areas is guaranteed  Sudan government to dissolve militias and disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
