HUDO Centre Date: 25th May 2020 No.: H.K/PS/18/020 PRESS STATEMENT CIVILIAN MURDERED BY RSF BECAUSE OF HIS ETHNICITY NEAR KADOGLI, SUDAN On 21stMay 2020, Mr. Awad Elwakeel Musa was shot dead by RSF soldiers near Kadogli town for acknowledging that he is Nuba. The case was reported at Kadogli police office against anonymous. On21stMay 2020, Mr. Awad Elwakeel Musa (33 years old) together with three others were travelling on a vehicle from Al-kewaik to Kadogli town. When they reached near a place known as Albardab, five (5) armed men dressed in Rapid Support Force (RSF) uniform obstructed them. The armed men ordered them to come down and they interrogated them about their ethnic background. When Mr. Awad revealed that he was a Nuba/ Reika, the armed men shot him immediately and allowed (let) the other travelers to continue with their journey. The dead body was later taken to Kadogli hospital and buried at Kadogli town. The murder case was filed at Kadogli police against anonymous. Kadogli is the capital town of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State. Kewaik is small town north Kadogli in a distance of approximately 40 km. Albardab is a village between Kadogli and Al-kewaik in a distance of 17 km North Kadogli. HUDO is still very concerned about the situation/ lives of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;  Sudan government to urgently and responsibly investigate the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains and to solve it urgently.  Sudan government to investigate the conduct and racist acts of the RSF and to ensure the rule of law.  Sudan government to ensure the protection and safety of people in conflict areas.  Sudan government to dissolve the government militia and disarm them.  Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens.  The UN agencies, INGOs and national NGOs in Sudan, to monitor the situation and give the needed support.
