HUDO Centre Date: 16th May 2025 No: H.K/UA/07/025 URGENT APPEAL GIS CARRIES OUT AN OPERATION OF ARRESTING THE YOUTH IN KADOGLI, SUDAN Between 9th and 12th May 2025, GIS arrested six (6) youths in Kadogli with no justified reason. One was released and the other five (5) are still held incommunicado in GIS cells in Kadogli. This raised concerns that they could be subjected to torture. The General Intelligence Service (GIS) in Kadogli carried out an operation targeting and arresting the youth activists in Kadogli emergency room. GIS is arresting the youth without giving any reasons. In all the cases, after arresting them (youths), the soldiers confiscate their smart phones and search them. The fate of these youths is unknown. Sequence of the arrests; On 9th May 2025, GIS soldiers arrested two (2) youths and took them to the GIS building in Kadogli. One is Mr. Omar Mohammed Osman (known by the nickname Omer Faransa), 38 years old, an employee at Kadogli Electricity Company. The second one is Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Kodi, 35 years old. GIS soldiers confiscated and searched their smart phones. They were detained in GIS cells without any clear charges. On 10th May 2025, GIS soldiers arrested Mr. Ahmed Omer, 49 years old, a trader in Kadogli market. He was detained for one (1) night and released unconditionally on 11th May 2025. The reason behind his release was that “he was not the intended person, that there was just similarity in names”. On 11th May 2025, GIS soldiers arrested Mr. Mohamed Ismail, 34 years old, he is employee at Ministry of Urban Planning. He was taken to the GIS cells in Kadogli. The reason for the arrest was not given. On 12th May 2025, the GIS arrested Mr. Mosab Osman Al-Noor (35 years old) and Mr. Aasim Ahmed (35 years old) from Kadogli market and took them to the GIS office/detention. No reasons were given for their arrest. The same day (evening) Mr. Ahmed (the father of Mr. Aasim) attempted to visit his detained son but GIS solders did not allow him.
