HUDO Centre Date: 27th April 2021 No. H.K/PS/29/021 PRESS STATEMENT SAF SOLDIERS REFUSED TO COMPLY WITH THE COURT ORDER IN ALERI, SUDAN Since 30th December 2019 when the court ordered two SAF soldiers to vacate and hand over the property/ land to the owners in Aleri, the soldiers have defied the court order and they are still occupying the land. Both police and SAF commandant have not enforced the court order. Since March 2018, two Sudan Armed Force (SAF) soldiers by names Ismail Musa Basharein and Elrasheed Ahmed Ali have been illegally occupying the plot of two stores in Aleri Sharq/ East market. They refused to hand over the plot/ land to the rightful owners (Heirs of the late/ Abduelrahman Eljak). On 18th June 2018, the land owners reported (filed) a case against SAF soldiers at Kologi police because there was no magistrate in Aleri. On 30th December 2019, court delivered its verdict (judgment) ordering the two soldiers to leave the property and hand it over to the owners and to pay their lawyers’ fee. But since then, police have not enforced the court order and the two soldiers refused to vacate (leave) the said land. The land owners also contacted SAF commandant in Aleri Sharq to help and implement (enforce) the court order but no help has come through yet. Aleri Sharq and Kologi are towns in Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan state neighbouring each other. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon:  The transitional government of Sudan to hold to account SAF commandant in Aleri Sharq and the two soldiers for refusing to enforce the court order.  Sudan government to end the state of emergency in conflict areas which enables SAF to act irresponsibly.  Sudan government to respect the civilians’ constitutional rights and its international obligations End: For more information, please write to hudo2009@gmail.com
