HUDO Centre Date: 6th April 2022 No.: H.K/PS/22/022 PRESS STATEMENT PDF FORCIBLY FREED A MURDER SUSPECT FROM THE POLICE CUSTODY IN UMBREMBETA, SUDAN On 14th March 2022, about twenty (20) armed PDF soldiers invaded Umbrembeta police post and forcibly freed their colleague who was accused of murder. Up to date no action has been taken by security authorities towards the attackers yet some were known. On 14th March 2022 around midday (Sudan time), about twenty (20) armed men dressed in People Defense Force (PDF) uniform, using motorbikes and some putting on masks attacked Umbrembeta police office and freed their colleague known as Mr. Belal Ahmed (37 years old). Mr. Belal was arrested on 10th March 2022 on the accusation of murder. Some policemen recognized three of the PDF attackers as Mr. Ebaid Daldoum, Mr. Elnour Bakur and Mr.Eltahir Kouri. But, the three attackers who were recognized are still moving freely in the town and not arrested or questioned by the security. The defendants who were freed by force have since disappeared. This action raised fear among citizens and reduced their trust in the security organs. Umbrembeta is a town in Abu-Kershola locality in Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;  Police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly  The security committee in SK to immediately investigate this case and apprehend the culprits.  The prosecutor in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.  The security committee in South Kordufan state to dissolve and disarm militias and ensure the safety of civilians.
