HUDO Centre Date: 7th August 2024 No.: H.K/UA/10/024 URGENT APPEAL GIS ARRESTED MR. MOHAMMED AND CONFISCATED HIS MOTORBIKE IN EL-OBAID, SUDAN On 29th July 2024, General Intelligence Service (GIS) arrested Mr. Mohamed Osman AlBashir from his home in El-Obeid and took him to unknown place. Also confiscated his motorbike. They (GIS) accused him to be a collaborator of Rapid Support Forces (RSF). His family members don’t know his whereabouts and they are worried for his life. On 29th July 2024, more than twenty (20) armed soldiers from General Intelligence Service came with three (3) military vehicles and arrested Mr. Mohammed Osman Al-Bashir from his house in Al-Saliheen neighborhood of El-Obeid town. They also confiscated his motorbike and they took him to unknown place. They accused Mr. Mohammed of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This was according to their words while arresting him. The family members of Mr. Mohammed do not know where he is detained, which raised fears that his life could be at risk. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The General Intelligence Service (GIS) in El-Obeid to immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Mohammed Osman Al-Bashir and any other civilians that could be under their detention or take them to the courts of law.  The security committee in North Kordufan State to investigate the circumstances behind Mr. Mohammed’s arrest and make the findings public.  The General Intelligence Service to stop the arrest of civilians.  Sudan government to revoke the recent amendment that gives GIS the power of arrest.
