Humanitarian situation As mentioned earlier basic commodities and fuel prices are rising all the time in all parts of Sudan, in particular in conflict affected areas. This is due to the deterioration of the value of the Sudanese pound and the control put on the commodities and fuel passing to the conflict zones in Southern Kordofan. IDPs continue to suffer, as access to national and international aids is still denied. IDPs in El Rahad who used to be supported by the government, started to leave their camps, because the support and aids given from the government is diminishing. .Arrests: This month witnessed a decline in the number of detentions, however many are hiding themselves from the authorities fearing of being arrested. More than ten has been arrested and six are released during this reporting period Another Issue (Blue Nile Trials): Blue Nile detainees hearing still going on, there was two sittings, on 24th and 25th June and the next sittings will be on 8th and 7th July. Surprisingly, there was an addition of six people, four of them were not even among the previously announced list, which meant that authorities could add more and more under no legal grounds. In addition, the approach of all trials has been ethnic in nature, as many have never been questioned of any issues rather than their ethnicity and their tribes being involved in the conflict. However they are members in National Congress Party – NCP (party in power). Sporadic events: • Up to date the eighteen detainees women from Kadugli are still in El Obeid prison for more than nine month without any legal basis. • The amendment of Article (4) in the military forces law is considered as a severe violation of the Constitution law and an attempt to legalize a series of violations. The amendment include the following: 1. Working in either civilian or military service in any country in a state of hostility with Sudan is prohibited and violators should be tried. 2. Any civilian who help intentionally or negligibly in the escape of prisoners of war; leak military secrets; has imaging devices with a purpose to snap military area or layout that area; also any civilian who tries to persuade a military personnel to join the insurgency forces will be tried.
