Date: 4th April 2019 No. H.K/UA/10/019 URGENT ACTION ARREST OF MUJAHID ALI BY NISS IN KHARTOUM, SUDAN On 10th March 2019, Mr. Mujahid Ali was arrested by NISS in Khartoum from the French Cultural Centre. Since then, he has been held incommunicado. The reason for the arrest was not given though reliable sources suspect that it’s related to strike at his University. Mr. Mujahid Ali Eldouma Kuku, 24 years old is a civil engineer / graduate of Mughtarbein University, activist and a writer of short stories. He is an Internal Displaced Person (IDP) from South Kordufan since 2011. On 10th March 2019 at around 05:00 PM (Sudan time), Mr. Mujahid was arrested by NISS soldiers from the French Cultural Centre in Khartoum while he was there for a training event. According to witnesses, three people in civilian clothes using white pickup vehicle introduced themselves as NISS soldiers and arrested Mr. Mujahid in front of the French Centre and took him to unknown place. The following day his father who was informed by eye witnesses went to NISS reception office and requested to visit/ see Mr. Mujahid. NISS soldiers told him that, they will call him when the visit is approved. Since then the father has not received any calls from them. Mr. Mujahid has been held incommunicado which raises the fear of being under torture. A reliable source informed HUDO that, Mr. Mujahid’s arrest is under reason of NISS accusing him by participating in the strike at Almughtarbein University on 7th March 2019 where many students/ graduates had been arrested by then. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of youth during this time of demonstrations in Sudan. HUDO calls upon;     Sudan government to stop targeting, arresting and intimidating youth. Sudan government to immediately release those arrested while exercising their rights of expressing their opinion peacefully. Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens. NISS in Khartoum to stop intimidating and harassing youth. 1
