arrested by eight (8) armed soldiers of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF). He was taken to SAF Military Intelligence (MI) office within Altugula gold mine and later transferred to Talodi military base. At the military base, he was detained together with other people under very poor conditions and tortured (beaten). He was particularly interrogated under the assumption that he is a soldier from Sudan People Liberation Army – North (SPLAN). On 23rd February 2021, he was released on condition that he should go back to his village and not to be seen in the gold mine area or within Talodi town. However, his motorbike, money (SDG 13800 = USD 50), spectacles and a silver ring were confiscated by the MI. There was no case opened against him at the police office. 2.1.2 Arrest and release of civilians by SAF in Talodi On 23rd February 2021, Mr. Taj-Elsir Abdalla Mesaibeil and Mr. Hussein Ibrahim AbuJarra were released from SAF/MI custody in Talodi and ordered to immediately leave Talodi town. But, the motorbike of Mr. Hussein was confiscated. During the interrogation, they were accused of being Sudan People Liberation Army – North (SPLA-N) soldiers. Since 18th December 2020, when they were arrested by Sudan Armed Force (SAF) soldiers, they were kept incommunicado in Military Intelligence (MI) custody at Talodi military base. They were denied visits and subjected to inhuman treatment. For instance, during their detention period, more than ten people were sharing a small room (3X4 metres) with no ventilation. They were also offered one poor quality meal per day and given only four (4) litres of water per day. In the entire detention period (more than 60-days), they were allowed to shower/ bath once. Their detention room had a bucket/ container to use for defecating. They were physically and psychologically tortured. They were also verbally intimidated with words like, “we are expecting to receive your execution order any time”. 2.1.3 Arrest of Mr. Kailla by SAF in Talodi On 3rd March 2021, a group of armed soldiers of Sudan Armed Force (SAF) arrested Mr. Abduelsalam Kailla Komi (52 years old) from his shop at Talodi market and taken to SAF’s military base in town. They did not allow lawyers or relatives to access/visit him. 8
