HUDO Centre Date: 7th August 2025 No.: H.K/UA/09/025 URGENT APPEAL THE JSC ARRESTED TWO YOUTHS IN GANEES, SUDAN On 29th and 31st July 2025, the Joint Security Cell (JSC) arrested Mr. Abu-Obeida Sharaf-Eldin and Mr. Almutasim-Billah Khaleifa from Ganees for unknown reasons. They are holding them incommunicado at JSC cells which raised fear that they could be undergoing torture. On 29th July 2025, Mr. Abu-Obeida Sharaf-Eldin was arrested by the JSC soldiers from his house in Ganees and taken to unknown place. The JSC soldiers did not reveal a reason for the arrest. On 31st July 2025, Mr. Almutasim-Billah Khaleifa Taha was also arrested by JSC soldiers from his house in Ganees. He was taken to unknown place and no reason was given for the arrest. HUDO Centre was reliably informed that the two youth are held at the JSC cells in Damazin city. That the cell is in a poor state (small, crowded and with no ventilation) with little supply of food and water. An activist in Damazin informed HUDO Centre that, he believes that Abu-Obeida was arrested for political reasons since he is accused to be affiliated to The Civilian Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (SOMOUD) and that Mr. Almutasim could have been arrested because he wrote an article (on his Facebook page) expressing his solidarity with Abu-Obeida. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The JSC in Blue Nile State to immediately and unconditionally release the two arrested youths and any other detainees or send them to the courts of law.  The security committee in Blue Nile State to investigate the circumstances that led to this arrest and make the report public.  The JSC in Blue Nile State to stop arresting civilians arbitrarily.
