HUDO Centre Date: 13th February 2020 No.: H.K/PS/04/020 PRESS STATEMENT (For immediate release) MURDERING AND INJURING OF CIVILIANS BY PDF SOLDIER IN ABUKERSHOLA, SUDAN On 29thJanuary 2020, one PDF soldier shot at a gathering of civilians, killed two people and injured other three at Abu-Kershola. The shooting incident was a vengeful act. The case was reported at Abu-Kershola police office against him (PDF soldier) but no further action was taken by police. On 29thJanuary 2020,an armed PDF soldier named Abduelkarim Mohammed shot at a gathering of people at a water source near Abu-Kershola resulting in the death of Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Eissa (39 years old) and Mr. Eldai Ahmed Eissa (27 years old). Three (3) other people were injured and their names are; Mr. Abduelrahman Elleheu (56 years old), Elthagafee Jeddah (48 years old) and Ibrahim Elmaikana (47 years old). The three injured people were taken to Abu-Kershola hospital for medical treatment. This case was report at Abu-Kershola police office but no further action was taken by police to arrest the perpetrator who has since disappeared. The reliable sources informed HUDO Centre that, the suspect (perpetrator) was earlier accused in March 2019 of kidnapping a lady. As a result, the family of the kidnapped lady attacked perpetrator’s house and injured his sister. Days later, the perpetrator’s father was killed by unknown people. Some days before this reported shooting incident, the lady (who was earlier kidnapped) disappeared again and her family attacked the perpetrator’s house while he was away. On coming back, the perpetrator was informed about the attack to his house and he responded by shooting people. Abu-Kershola town is a capital of Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains. The reported water source is 10 km west Abu-Kershola town and it’s mainly used by nomads for their cattle. The suspected person (perpetrator) and the victims are all nomads. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
