HUDO Centre 8th November 2018 PRESS STATEMENT ARREST AND RELEASE OF SALMAN BY THE PUBLIC SECURITY IN DAMAZIN/ SUDAN On 27th October 2018, the public security in Damazin arrested Salman Mohammed Ahmed for publishing in social media information about the state Islamic Movement conference. He was later released on 29th October 2018 after being tortured. Salman was arrested by the public security in Damazin at about 11:00 AM on 27th Oct 2018. They confined/detained him at their office in a washroom for two days before releasing him on 29th October 2018. He has been beaten, insulted and other forms of ill-treatment and denied access by visitors. He was arrested because of writing/publishing information about the State’s Islamic movement conference. Salman was later released with a stern warning and threats of being treated harshly if he repeats any similar publications on social media about the Islamic movement. Salman Mohammed Ahmed Yahya is known as social media activist in Blue Nile State. The public security is an informal security organ of the Islamic movement which is the real founder of the ruling party/National Congress Party (NCP). HUDO is very concerned about the safety of civilians in conflict areas /states of Sudan and calls upon;  Sudan government to put a total ban on the public security.  Sudan government to adopt and respect the rule of law.  Sudan government (at central and state levels) to respect the rights/freedom of expression.  Blue Nile State government to conduct investigations around Salman’s case, to make the findings public and hold to account whoever responsible for Salman’s arrest and ill-treatment.
