HUDO Centre Date: 22nd August 2021 No.: H.K/PS/51/021 PRESS STATEMENT FARMER KILLED BY UNKNOWN PEOPLE NEAR ABU-KERSHOLA, SUDAN On 29th July 2021, unknown people killed a farmer (Mr. Tegani Hassan) at his farm near AbuKershola and took away his motorbike (tuktuk). The case was reported at Abu-Kershola police. But no further step was carried out by police. On 29thJuly 2021, Mr. Tegani Hassan Malek rode his motorbike/ tuktuk to his farm in Um-Kering village. But that evening, he did not come back home as his usual routine was. The following day (30th July 2021) his family members went to his farm to look for him but, they found him dead with a bullet wound on his head and his motorbike was nowhere to be seen. They took the dead body to Abu-Kershola hospital for postmortem before taking it for burial that same day. This murder case was reported/ filed against anonymous at Abu-Kershola police but, no investigation was carried out. Mr. Tegani Hassan Malek (40 years) was a farmer and resident of Abu-Kershola town. Um-Kering village is about 15 km west Abu-Kershola town (capital of Abu-Kershola locality) in the eastern region of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;  Sudan government to urgently address the problem of insecurity in the eastern region of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains.  Sudan government to ensure that there is rule of law.  Sudan government to hold to account the security committee in South Kordufan State.  Sudan government to dissolve the government militias and disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
