HUDO Centre Date: 17th October 2022 No.: H.K/PS/47/022 PRESS STATEMENT UNIDENTIFIED ARMED PEOPLE ATTACKED COURT IN Al-ABBASIYA, SUDAN On 8th September 2022, two armed people attacked Al-Abbasiya court. They assaulted all the guards, shot and injured one policeman and robbed two guns. The case was filed at police but no progress was made in apprehending the assailants. On 8th September 2022 night (around 01:00 AM), two armed men attacked Al-Abbasiya court which was guarded by two armed policemen (Mohammed Ibrahim and Mohammed Abduelaziz) and a civilian guard (Ahmed). The attackers shot one of the policemen (Abduelaziz) and injured his arm and leg. They also beat them (all) up with sticks and took away two guns (AK-47) from the policemen and disappeared. The injured policeman was taken to Al-Abbasiya hospital for medical treatment. This case was filed against unidentified persons. However, up to date police has failed to disclose the attackers or arrest them. One of the lawyers in Al-Abbasiya talked to HUDO Centre saying that, “due to this incident and many others where militias attack police, the police’s image/reputation and trust among civilians has been damaged”. Al-Abbasiya is the capital town of Al-Abbasiya locality in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains and its one of the localities which has the highest number of People Defense Force (PDF) members. The militias in this locality are very active.
