Date: 24th March 2021 No. H.K/PS/22/021 PRESS STATEMENT ARMED PEOPLE SHOT AND INJURED A COMMUNITY LEADER IN ELFAID UMABDALLA, SUDAN On 21st March 2021, armed people broke into the house of the community leader (Mr. Haroun Abduelgadir) in Elfaid Um-Abdalla. They shot and injured him and thereafter ran away. The case was reported at the police office against anonymous but no further investigations were carried out. On 21st March 2021(after midnight), armed people broke into the house of the community leader (Ommda) Mr. Haroun Abduelgadir in Elfaid Um-Abdalla, and they (Intruders) shouted (called out) his name. He immediately woke up and appeared to them. One of the intruders shot a bullet towards the community leader’s head and injured his right face side and ear and they run away after. He was rushed/ taken by his family members and neighbours to the health centre in town and later transferred to Elobeid town where he is receiving further medical treatment. The family also reported the case at Elfaid Um-Abdalla police against anonymous but no further investigations was done. Mr. Haroun Abduelgadir (65 years old) is the community leader (Ommda) of Hausa tribe in Elfaid UmAbdalla. Elfaid Um-Abdalla is small town in Abu-Kershola locality of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State. Elobeid city is the capital of North Kordufan State located in a distance of approximately 250 km from Elfaid Um-Abdalla. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon:  Sudan government to urgently investigate and hold to account police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains for not executing their duties.  Sudan government to immediately address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.  Sudan government to ensure that the safety of civilians in conflict areas is guaranteed  Sudan government to dissolve militias and disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
