HUDO Centre Date: 12th October 2020 No.: H.K/PS/39/020 PRESS STATEMENT ASSASSINATION OF A STUDENT IN DILLING, SUDAN On 5th October 2020, a university student named Mr. Abuzar Abass was shot dead by unknown people at the gate of his home in Dilling town. The reason for his shooting is not known. This murder case was reported at Dilling police against anonymous. On 5thOctober 2020 at 12:00AM (midnight), Mr. Abuzar and his brothers were sleeping at their parent’s house at Almac neighbourhood in Dilling town. Someone knocked at their gate while calling Abuzar’s name. He went out to open the gate and he was immediately shot with two bullets on the head. When the other brothers heard the gunshots, they ran to the gate only to find Abuzar dead and nobody was at the scene. The family members took the dead body to the town hospital for postmortem. The postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was the two bullet shots on his head. The family buried Abuzar’s body and filed the murder case at Dilling police against anonymous. Mr. Abuzar Abass (23 years old) was student at Dilling University. Dilling is a town in Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State and it is about 135 km north Kadogli town. HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and civilians’ safety in conflict areas and calls upon;  Sudan government at state and central level to immediately investigate this case.  Sudan government to address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.  Sudan government to ensure that the safety of civilians in conflict areas is guaranteed  Sudan government to disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
