HUDO Centre Date: 26th February 2019 No.: H.K/PR/18/019 PRESS STATEMENT (For immediate release) ARREST OF TWO YOUTH BY NISS IN DAMAZIN-SUDAN On 15th February 2019, Mr. Mohammed Musbah and Mr. Isam Elfateh were arrested by NISS in Damazin for their activism on social media. They were released on the same day at night on condition that they report to NISS daily. On the morning of 15th February 2019, National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) in Damazin arrested Mr. Mohammed Musbah and Mr. Isam Elfateh Jubara from their homes. They were arrested because of their activities on social media which NISS considers to be inciting the youth to demonstrate. They were released on the same day (late evening) with conditions of reporting to NISS office on a daily basis. On reporting, NISS retains them in doors (at their office) up to late evening hours/. Both Mr. Mohammed Musbah, 27 years old and Mr. Isam Elfateh Jubara, 26 years old are university graduates. Since December 2018, demonstrations have been going on in many towns of Sudan including Damazin where people are demanding for their basic rights and political reforms. The security forces responded with excessive force towards demonstrators which caused loss of lives and many have been arrested. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of youth during this time of demonstrations in Sudan. HUDO calls upon;  Sudan government to stop targeting, arresting, and intimidating youth.  Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens.  NISS in Damazin to stop intimidating and harassing people.
