HUDO Centre Date: 7th August 2024 No.: H.K/PS/16/024 PRESS STATEMENT UNFAMILIAR PERSONS SHOT AND KILLED A BUILDER IN GARDOOD TORO, SUDAN On 16th July 2024, unidentified persons robbed and shot at construction workers in Gardood Turu area. This led to the immediate death of Mr. Musa Abdulelgadir. The case was reported at police which came and stopped at visiting the crime scene. On 16th July 2024, at 4:00PM (Sudan local time), two unidentified persons from the nomad Arab (recognized by their accent) came to the camp of eight (8) workers who were working on the maintenance of a bridge in Gardood Toro area and asked them (workers) where they were from. The workers replied that, they are from Talodi town and had come to work at the bridge, and then the two unidentified persons left. At around 7:00PM, the same two persons came accompanied by two others. They threatened the workers and robbed them of their mobile phones under gunpoint. But, Mr. Musa Abdulelgadir Mohammed Yousif resisted and refused to hand over his items. There and then, they (assailants) shot him dead instantly and left. The workers (colleagues to the deceased) notified the closest Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) base which was about 1.5km away. SAF sent a military vehicle, picked the dead body and took it to Talodi. The body was buried after filing a case at Talodi police, and the police had visited the crime scene and no more investigation was made. Gardood Toro is an area located on the road linking Talodi and Kologi towns in South Kordofan State/Nuba Mountains, it’s about 40 km east Talodi town and known as nomad camps area mostly Arab from Hawazma tribe. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan and calls for the following: • The Sudanese Armed Forces in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to implement security measures for the protection of civilians. • The prosecutor in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.
