URGENT ACTION
ARREST OF YOUTH BY NISS IN DAMAZIN, SUDAN
On 11th January 2019, NISS arrested a group of youth in Damazin at Almuleid square. The
reason for arrest was attempting to demonstrate. Their whereabouts are not known and they
are suspected to be undergoing torture.
Most of the arrested youth are students from Blue Nile University and graduates. Some of their
names are: Mr. Huzaifa Ahmed, 26 years old; Mr. Abduelmoneim Mohammed Elmamoun, 27 years;
Mr. Abdalla Elmasri, 25 years; Mr. Mutwakil Nabil, 23 years; Mr. Osman Abass, 27 years and Mr.
Elnagei Magdi, 21 years.
On 11th January 2019, immediately after Jumaa prayers, unspecified number of youth was arrested
by National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) in Damazin at Almuleid square. They were taken
to unknown place and this has raised fear that they could be subjected to torture.
According to social media activist in Damazin said, there was a call in social media for a
demonstration at Almuleid square after Jomaa prayers; the call was from unknown account on
Facebook. It is believed that the Facebook account was a false one from NISS generated to trap
whoever intended to come out for demonstration. So, however had appeared or passed by the venue
was arrested.
HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians during this current situation of
demonstrations.
HUDO calls upon;
Sudan government to stop targeting students/ youth.
Blue Nile State government and NISS to disclose the number and whereabouts of those
detained youth and to allow family and lawyers to visit them.
NISS in Damazin to immediately release them unconditionally or to present them before courts
of law if there is a genuine case against them.
