HUDO Centre Date: 1st June 2023 No.: H.K/PS/18/023 PRESS STATEMENT THE BRUTAL ARREST OF MR.NAGI BY SAF SOLDIERS IN TALODI, SUDAN On 22ndMay 2023, SAF soldiers brutally arrested Mr. Nagi Ahmed from a petrol station in Talodi. Mr. Nagi was released on 25th May 2023 after undergoing torture during the three (3) days detention. The cause of his arrest was a dispute with SAF soldiers at the petrol station. On 22ndMay 2023, Mr. Nagi Ahmed Mohammed Nasir was arrested by Sudan Armed Force (SAF) from a petrol station in Talodi. SAF soldiers who were controlling the fuel distribution physically assaulted him. They transported him on SAF vehicle to Talodi garrison and detained him for three days while torturing him then released him on 25th May 2023. The cause of his arrest was connected to the ongoing conflict between SAF and RSF whereby SAF soldiers in Talodi are currently controlling the distribution of fuel. Mr. Nagi came to the petrol station with his underage cousin to get fuel for their grinding mill. However, SAF soldiers did not allow him to get the needed fuel and they did not give reasons as to why yet they were giving fuel to other people. Mr. Nagi argued about his rights and demanded to get the approved amount of fuel. The SAF soldiers considered his demands as disrespectful of their decision and they subsequently manhandled, assaulted (beaten) and arrested him. One of the youth in Talodi talked to HUDO Centre saying that, “regularly, SAF soldiers in Talodi intentionally humiliate civilians and it became worse since the fight between SAF and RSF started.” Mr. Nagi Ahmed Mohammed Nasir (28 years old) is self employed. Talodi town is the capital of Talodi locality in South Kordufan state/ Nuba Mountains. ‫‏‬HUDO Centre is very concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan especially during this period of general conflict/ war and calls upon:  The commandant of SAF in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to investigate the circumstances around the arrest of Mr. Nagi by SAF in Talodi and makes the findings public.  The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to stop the arbitrary arrest of civilians.
