1 Introduction 1.1 About HUDO Centre Human Rights and Development Organization (HUDO Centre) is an independent, non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit making organization based in Kampala, Uganda. It works towards the promotion of human welfare for vulnerable communities in its working areas. HUDO Centre believes in promoting human welfare without racial, religious, or gender discrimination. On 25th October 2009, HUDO Centre was established and officially recognized as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Sudan. In June 2011, when armed conflict erupted in South Kordofan, HUDO Centre’s certification as an NGO was revoked by the Sudanese government. However, HUDO Centre continued to work under very tight and threatening conditions. In order to fulfil its mission, the HUDO Centre office was moved and officially registered in Uganda on 13th March 2013 as non-profit company limited by guarantee under the name of HUDO Centre. After operating for some period, on 4th May 2017, HUDO Centre was registered in Uganda under the NGO Board as a foreign NGO. However, the mandate was expanded to include a special program for refugees. HUDO Centre undertakes human rights monitoring in Sudan. Currently, we are the leading organization in human rights monitoring activities within government-controlled areas of South Kordofan (SK) and Blue Nile (BN) States. HUDO Centre’s vision: A world where everyone’s human rights are protected and fulfilled without discrimination. HUDO Centre’s mission: To champion universal access to rights-based information and services to vulnerable and underserved communities through sustainable innovations, humanitarian support, strategic partnerships, rights empowerment, capacity building, research, and advocacy. 6
