HUDO Centre Date: 27th September 2020 No.: H.K/PS/36/020 PRESS STATEMENT PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATORS ARRESTED AND DISCHARGED BY SAF IN ABU-JIBAIHA, SUDAN On 23rd September 2020, SAF in Abu-Jibaiha of Nuba Mountains arrested thirty one (31) people from a public demonstration and released them later due to public pressure. On 23rd September 2020, residents of Abu-Jibaiha launched a public demonstration in support of the peace framework agreement signed in Addis Ababa by Sudan prime minster/ Abdalla Hamdouk and Sudan People Liberation Army – North (SPLA-N) chairperson/ Abduelaziz Elhelu. The Sudan Armed Force soldiers came on nine (9) vehicles and obstructed the demonstration march and randomly arrested thirty one (31) people and took them to Abu-Jibaiha military base. The gathering of demonstrators followed them up to the gate of the military base and demanded for the release of the arrested people. After waiting for six hours, the detained people were released. The following are the names of people that had been arrested: Mohammed Elhadi Manga, Abduelgadir Elamein, Elamein Mungar, Huzaifa Mohammed Shankaran, Reyad Abdueljaleil, AllaaEldin Sabri, Osman Suliman, Omer Suliman, Ms. Husneeya Peter, Hussan Elkhair, Sayab Adam, Adnan Adil, Hamid Hamad, Abduelghafour Ramadan, Ms. Um-Elhussein Fadelalah, Mohammed Elmustafa, Abdu Osman Komi, Elsheikh Mohamadeen, Ms. Amna Mohammed, Ms. Khadeija Ismail Kaju, Jamoos Mohammed Burkan, Osman Mohammed Elhadi, Yousif Mohammed Elhadi, Muntasir Omer, Salah Adam, Ibrahim Mohammed, Ahmed Hassan, Ismail Abubaker, Abduelhameed Mukhtar, Ms. Aisha Elsadiq Nawai and Mohammed Abdalla Omer. Abu-Jibaiha town is the capital of Abu-Jibaiha locality in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;     Sudan government to hold to account the SAF commandant in Abu-Jibaiha for the arrest of peaceful demonstrators. Sudan government to preserve and protect the civilians’ rights. Sudan government to stop security forces and militias from violating rights of citizens especially in conflict areas.
