HUDO Centre Date: 20th September 2023 No.: H.K/PS/31/023 PRESS STATEMENT SAF ARRESTED FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS IN KADOGLI, SUDAN On 11th August 2023, Sudan Armed Force (SAF) in Kadogli arrested four (4) family members accusing them of belonging to SPLM-N. The four were detained (held incommunicado) at the military base of Kadogli. They were later released at different intervals. On 11th August 2023, morning hours (around 6:00 AM Sudan local time), a group of armed SAF soldiers came on four (4) military vehicles, surrounded, broke into a house of Mr. Ahmed Suliman’s family in Alradeef neighbourhood of Kadogli town, shot bullets in the air and arrested four (4) family members. During the arrest, SAF soldiers physically assaulted (beaten) the victims and then took them to Kadogli military base and detained them incommunicado up to day/time of release. The SAF accused them (the victims) of being active members of Sudan People Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N). Two of the detainees were released at 8:00 PM (same day) on condition that they should not host any relatives gathering at their house. The names of the released two are; Mr. Tirhaga Ahmed Suliman (37years) self-employed and Mr. Mohammed-Almozdan Kamal Ahmed (20 years) student. The remaining two were held detained for three days and were subjected to torture (beatings and verbal insults). They were released on 13th August 2023 with torture marks on their bodies and in poor health. Their names are; Mohammed-Alhafiz Ahmed Suliman (27 years) a trader and Mr. Ahmed-Altegani Ahmed Suliman (25 years) a trader. Three of the detainees were brothers (Tirhaga, Mohd-Alhafiz and Ahmd-Altegani) and the fourth (MohdAlmozdan) is their nephew. Kadogli is the capital city of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of SAF and RSF fights (conflict) and calls for the following:  Sudan Armed Forces to stop arresting civilians arbitrarily.  The SAF commander in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to investigate the circumstances under which family members were arrested.
