HUDO Centre Date: 7th May 2025 No.: H.K/UA/04/025 URGENT APPEAL GIS ARRESTED MR. KHABIR AHMED IN ABU-JIBAIHA, SUDAN On 29th April 2025, GIS soldiers arrested Mr. Khabir Ahmed from Abu-Jibaiha Market and took him to their detention centre. He was arrested because of the social media (Facebook page) post. He is held incommunicado in GIS detention, this caused fear that he could be subjected to torture. On 29th April 2025, at 12:00 pm (Sudan local time), a group of soldiers from General Intelligence Security (GIS) came with a vehicle and arrested Mr. Ahmed Nasr El-Tijani (Khabir) from his friend's shop in Abu-Jibaiha market. He was taken to the GIS building in Abu-Jibaiha and the access is restricted. His family members and lawyers are not allowed to visit him, which raises fear that he could be undergoing torture. He was arrested because of writing and posting on his Facebook page criticizing and opposing the call of by the religion affiliated militia (Baraa bin Malik Brigade/ militia) which has been mobilizing the youth within the eastern region of South Kordufan to join its ranks. Their call was religious based with pretext that Islam is in danger during the current war. Mr. Ahmed is still held incommunicado in GIS building in Abu-Jibaiha. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following: • The GIS in Abu-Jibaiha to immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Ahmed or take him to the courts of law. • The head of the security committee in South Kordufan State (the governor) to investigate the circumstances behind this arrest and make the findings public. • The GIS to stop targeting and arresting civilians. • Sudan government to respect the constitutional rights of citizens and to control their soldiers’ misconduct.
