The situation of the rest of the detainees remained the same, they are still not allowed to contact neither their families nor their lawyers, the detention condition
which least be described as inhuman. Also those who have been missed still no information about where they are or their detention conditions.
In response to the presidential amnesty and after strong advocacy campaign and load of appeals by local and international organizations, 22 detainee from the
Nuba Mountains ( as reported to HUDO) have been released between 4th -25th April. Below are their details;
6 detainees from Khartoum prisons and detention cells (a female and five males).
16 detainee from Kadguli prison / South Kordofan state (the 14 females who were moved from El Obeid prison and other two males )in Kadogli prison).
The above mentioned detainees spent between 5 and 14 month in detention..
Sporadic events:
On 25th April 2013, 14 women out of 32 women in Kadugli prison were released after spending over more than five months in Kadugli and EL Obeid
prisons. The decision was taken by the State security committee, which consists of the deputy state governor Gen. Ahammed Khamees (chairperson)
and members of the head of the Judiciary in the state, the chief prosecuting attorney in the state, the police commissioner of the state and representative
from National Intelligence Security Services (NISS) and others with detainees attendance. Before being released, they have badly abused and insulted.
They have also been accused / blamed for those who died in the active war in the region. After cases/charges were opened against them, they were
released under bail condition and other strict conditions like; Not allowed to move outside the territory of the state unless permitted by the state security
committee; will be held responsible if any case of shelling ,death or any threat occur to the state; threatened to be re-arrested under the cases opened
based on criminal law act 1991 read with emergency law 1998 after that they were forced to sign a document committing themselves with all the above
mentioned accusations.
The press release of the Sudanese minister of guidance and endowments stating that (no more churches will be erected in Sudan and that Christians are
not allowed to construct any new churches) has resulted into wide resentment among national and international human rights and civil societies and
organizations.
All the detainees who got released and who are government employees lost their jobs, despite their continuing effort to get their jobs back.
The group of farmers in Albasia, who all their harvests had been burnt in last February by the Sudanese forces, were arrested on 2nd April and released
the following day after they have been warned not to report any case or to declare that it was the government that burnt their harvest.
Nuba people are not safe in Egypt, they are chased and targeted by the Sudanese government with collusion of the host government and silence
UNHCR. this led to the gathering of Sudanese people on 23rd April in front of the UNHCR office in Cairo protesting of the insecurity and absence of
protection.
On 29th April 2013 Hashim Nimir ( the son of Almesiriya tribe chief community leader), who joined the SPLM-N last January, appeal to all his tribe to
stop joining the government militias and come to the SPLA - N instead. This move is expected to have an effect on the ground as he is such an
influential person.
HUDO spotted four detainees from South Kordofan ( Misariya tribe), who have been in detention since 2010 without any legal procedure. They were
accused of being members of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). It is alleged that they have been kept for such a long period because they
continue refusing the government request to be enrolled in the militia. below are their details:
