HUDO Centre Date: 3rd June 2025 No: H.K/PS/19/025 PRESS STATEMENT GIS ARRESTED MR. HASSAN KHALEIL IN ABU-JIBAIHA, SUDAN On 31st May 2025, soldiers from GIS arrested Mr. Hassan Khaleil from his house and detained him at the GIS office detention in Abu-Jibaiha. They accused him of undermining the Baraa militia and communicating with Radio Dabanga. He was released unconditionally on the following day (1st June 2025). On 31st May 2025 midday, armed soldiers from the General Intelligence Service (GIS) came with a pickup vehicle and obstructed Mr. Hassan Khaleil Mohammed Ali along the road, Mr. Hassan was coming back home from shopping. The GIS soldiers first escorted him up to his house where he delivered the stuff he had bought and arrested him thereafter. Mr. Hassan was taken by the GIS soldiers to their office in Abu-Jibaiha where he was detained and interrogated before being released unconditionally the following day (1st June 2025). During interrogation, Mr. Hassan was intimidated and accused of undermining the Baraa militia. He was also accused of communicating with Radio Dabanga which he denied and there was no evidence found after his smart phone was searched. He was subsequently released unconditionally. Mr. Hassan Khaleil Mohammed Ali is 52 years old, trader and known as political and social activist. Baraa is Islamic militia allied to Sudan Armed Force (SAF) in its war against the Rapid Support Force (RSF). Baraa is Islamic militia is known to be a brutal militia. Abu-Jibaiha is the capital of Abu-Jibaiha locality in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The GIS in Abu-Jibaiha to stop arresting and intimidating civilians.  The head of the security committee in South Kordufan State (the governor) to investigate the circumstances that led to this arrest and make the findings public.
