HUDO Centre Date: 21st September 2024 No.: H.K/PS/19/024 UPDATE (2) ON SAF ARRESTED MR. ALI HAJO IN AL-KURMUK, SUDAN On 10th September 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo was released from Roseries prison. This was after serving the three (3) months prison sentence under emergency order. On 28th May 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo arrived at Al-Kurmuk town from Damazin city as he was on his way to Ethiopia by road. On arrival, he was arrested by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and detained at the Military Intelligence cells. SAF suspected that Mr. Ali Hajo was going to attend TAGADOM conference in Addis Ababa. On 5th June 2024, Mr. Ali Hajo was deported from Al-Kurmuk to Damazin and detained at the central police office up to 9th June 2024. Thereafter, he was transferred to Roseries Prison where he has been imprisoned for three (3) months without appearing before courts of law. This is according to an emergency order. He was imprisoned in bad/poor conditions. On 10th September 2024, Mr. Hajo was released after serving what was considered to be the full sentence period. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:  The Blue Nile State governor (head of security committee) to immediately stop incarceration orders and release any other detainees.  The governor of Blue Nile State to revoke the security law that is violating the rights of citizens.  The security organs in Blue Nile to stop arresting civilians arbitrarily.
